1. About these terms

These terms and conditions ("Terms") apply to your use of solicitors.je (the "Site"). "We", "us" and "our" mean solicitors.je. By using the Site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

The Site is operated from Jersey, and these Terms are governed by the law of Jersey (see section 19).

2. Definitions

  • "You" means any person or organisation using the Site.
  • "Firm" means any advocate, solicitor, law firm or other legal professional listed on, or introduced through, the Site. Firms are independent third parties.
  • "Enquiry" means any request for legal help you submit through a form on the Site.
  • "Listing" means a Firm's page in our directory.
  • "Verified Listing" means a Listing a Firm has claimed and verified with us.

3. What we do, and what we don't

solicitors.je is an independent directory and introduction service. We help people find Jersey law firms and, when you ask us to, pass your Enquiry to Firms that may be able to help.

We are not a law firm. We do not:

  • give legal advice;
  • act as advocates or solicitors, or carry on a regulated legal practice;
  • form a lawyer–client relationship with you;
  • guarantee the outcome of any legal matter; or
  • charge you for using the Site.

Any legal services you receive are provided by the Firm you instruct, under that Firm's own terms of business. Your contract for legal services is with the Firm, not with us.

Legal Aid: we do not handle Legal Aid matters. For information about Legal Aid in Jersey, contact the Law Society of Jersey.

4. Directory listings

Every Firm in our directory is an independent third party. Inclusion in the directory is not an endorsement or recommendation, and we are not affiliated with any Firm unless a page says so.

Unverified Listings contain only information the Firm itself has made publicly available, such as its name, office address and areas of practice. We compile them in good faith but cannot guarantee they are complete or current. If you spot an error, tell us and we will correct it.

Verified Listings are maintained by the Firm that claimed them. That Firm is responsible for the accuracy and lawfulness of everything on its Listing. A Verified badge means only that the Firm has confirmed its own Listing; it is not an endorsement by us.

We expect every Firm to comply with Jersey law and the professional rules that apply to it, including those of the Law Society of Jersey. Before instructing any Firm, you should check for yourself that it is suitable for your matter.

5. Using the Site

You may use the Site only for lawful purposes. You must not:

  • submit a false, misleading or fraudulent Enquiry;
  • use the Site to send spam or to advertise or sell services;
  • try to gain unauthorised access to the Site or its systems;
  • copy, scrape or republish content from the Site without our written permission; or
  • do anything that interferes with how the Site works.

We may restrict or end your access if we reasonably suspect misuse.

6. Enquiries

When you submit an Enquiry, you:

  • confirm that the information you give is accurate and complete;
  • agree that we may contact you about your Enquiry;
  • agree that we may share your Enquiry and contact details with one or more Firms we reasonably believe may be able to help, and that those Firms may contact you directly; and
  • understand that we do not control whether, or how quickly, a Firm responds.

Please do not include more detail about your legal matter than a Firm needs to understand it. We are not responsible for any communication or contract between you and a Firm.

7. No legal advice

Everything on the Site is general information only. It is not legal advice and you should not rely on it as such. For advice on your own situation, speak to a qualified Jersey advocate or solicitor.

8. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for your dealings with any Firm or other third party. Any decision to instruct a Firm is yours alone, and you should check its credentials and suitability before doing so.

9. Intellectual property

The Site's text, design, layout, graphics and branding belong to us or our licensors. You may view and print pages for your own personal use. You may not copy, republish, distribute, modify or commercially exploit any part of the Site without our written permission. Names and marks of listed Firms belong to those Firms.

10. Cookies

We do not set advertising or analytics cookies. Pages with an embedded Google map load content from Google, which may set its own cookies. Our Cookie Policy explains more.

11. Your personal data

We handle personal data in line with the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and your rights.

12. Third-party services and links

The Site uses third-party services to run, for example to host the Site, receive form submissions and show maps. It also links to other websites, including Firms' own sites. We are not responsible for the content, policies or practices of any third-party website or service.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law of Jersey allows, we are not liable for:

  • any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site;
  • the acts, omissions, advice or conduct of any Firm or other third party;
  • any error or omission in the Site's content, or any reliance placed on it;
  • the Site being unavailable, interrupted or not error-free; or
  • any loss of profit, loss of business, or indirect or consequential loss.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

14. Indemnity

You agree to compensate us for any claim, loss, liability or reasonable expense we suffer as a result of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Site.

15. Linking to the Site

You may link to the Site's home page or any Listing, provided you do so fairly and lawfully and do not suggest any association with, approval of or endorsement by us that does not exist. We may ask you to remove a link at any time.

16. Accuracy of content

We try to keep the Site accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee that any content is complete, accurate or current, or that the Site will always be available. We may change or remove content at any time without notice.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or in how we operate. The "last updated" date above shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

18. Suspension and removal

We may suspend or restrict access to the Site, remove any Listing or content, or block any user engaged in misuse or fraud, without notice where we consider it necessary.

19. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or your use of the Site, are governed by the law of Jersey. The courts of Jersey have exclusive jurisdiction.
