Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

1. Introduction

This policy explains how solicitors.je ("we", "us", "our") collects and uses personal data when you use solicitors.je (the "Site"). We handle personal data in line with the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

2. Who we are

solicitors.je is the data controller for personal data collected through the Site. You can contact us about this policy or your data using our contact form.

3. What we do

solicitors.je is an independent directory and introduction service. We are not a law firm and do not give legal advice. When you ask us to, we pass your enquiry to Jersey law firms that may be able to help.

4. What we collect

  • Details you give us: your name, email address, phone number and the message you send through a form on the Site, including any details of your legal matter.
  • Firm details: if you claim or apply for a listing, your name, role, firm and work contact details, and anything you ask us to add to your listing.
  • Technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and to keep the Site running.
  • Correspondence: any messages between you and us.

Please share only what a law firm needs to understand your matter. Avoid sending sensitive details, such as health information or details of criminal matters, unless they are needed.

5. How we use it

  • to respond to your enquiry and, where you ask us to, introduce you to law firms that may be able to help;
  • to verify and manage firm listings;
  • to correct directory information when told it is wrong;
  • to keep the Site secure and working properly; and
  • to meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for marketing unless you have agreed to that.

6. Our lawful bases

  • Consent: when you submit an enquiry and ask us to pass it to law firms.
  • Contract: where we need your data to do what you have asked us to do, such as managing a claimed listing.
  • Legitimate interests: running and securing the Site, and publishing directory information that firms have made public (see section 9).
  • Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us. This does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.

7. Who we share it with

  • Law firms: when you submit an enquiry, we may share it with one or more Jersey law firms we reasonably believe can help. Each firm then decides how to use your data as its own data controller, under its own privacy policy, so please read that firm's policy too.
  • Service providers: companies that host the Site, receive and store form submissions, and send email for us. They act only on our instructions.
  • Authorities: regulators, courts or police where the law requires it.

8. Transfers outside Jersey

Some of our service providers process data outside Jersey, for example in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or the United States. Where a country does not have data protection law recognised as adequate, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, as the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 requires.

9. People named in our directory

Directory listings contain only information firms have made publicly available, such as a firm's name, office address and areas of practice. Where a listing names an individual advocate or practitioner, we rely on our legitimate interest in providing an accurate public directory. You can ask us to correct that information or object to its use at any time using our contact form.

10. How long we keep it

We keep enquiries and related correspondence for up to 24 months after our last contact with you, then delete them, unless we need to keep them longer for legal reasons. Listing information is kept for as long as the listing is on the Site. Server logs are kept for a short period only.

11. Your rights

Under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data deleted;
  • restrict or object to how we use it;
  • receive your data in a portable format; and
  • withdraw your consent at any time.

To use any of these rights, use our contact form. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC) at jerseyoic.org.

12. Marketing

We will only send you marketing messages if you have agreed to receive them, and every message will tell you how to stop them.

13. Security

The Site is served over an encrypted connection, and we use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of information sent over the internet.

14. Cookies

See our Cookie Policy.

15. Other websites

The Site links to other websites, including law firms' own sites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above shows when it last changed.
